Facebook now supports end to end chat encryption
Facebook has followed suit after whatsApp launched chat encryption.
This feature only works on Facebook messenger.
This is what facebook has to say
This is what Facebook has to say about this new development;
“We’ve heard from you that there are times when you want additional safeguards — perhaps when discussing private information like an illness or a health issue with trusted friends and family, or sending financial information to an accountant. To enable you to do this we are starting to test the ability to create one-to-one secret conversations in Messenger that will be end-to-end encrypted and which can only be read on one device of the person you’re communicating with.”
How to enable end to end chat encryption on Facebook messenger
While on messenger, tap on a friend’s name you want to chat secretly with.
Beside the Audio, Video call icons, you should see a circle with an ( i )inside. Tap it and scroll down, you should see Secret Conversation.
Now tap on Secret Conversation
At this point you can start an end-to-end encrypted chatting.
In addition, you can also set a timer to automatically delete the secret messages.
NOTE: If you started a secret chat with someone on your phone and you want to continue that same chat on a PC, unfortunately, it won't be possible. Facebook made it only available to the device you started the secret chat with.
Before you can start a secret chat with a friend, that friend must be using the latest version of Facebook messenger. Kindly go to Google Playstore and update your Facebook messenger to the latest version and enjoy this new feature.
